07.06.12Further frustration in Catalunya for Kent
Round five of the Moto3 championship took place on Sunday 3 June in Barcelona at the circuit de Catalunya in dry and sunny conditions. Red Bull KTM Ajo rider Danny Kent completed the race in 20th position, despite coming sixth, fifth and third in the free practice tests.
The Tedbury teenager failed to match this pace during Saturday’s qualifying session, and as a result qualified in 14th position, back on the fifth row. Despite the warm-up being plagued by drizzle, the race itself was declared dry. However, Kent suffered with the heat and was engulfed by the other riders, leaving him in 29th position for the initial laps of the race. The 18-year-old managed to stalk his way up the pack to finish ahead of team-mate Arthur Sissis and Nikolas Ajo in 20th place.
As a result, the KTM rider dropped down three places in the world championship standings to 15th, adding further frustration to his season so far. Kent is hoping to kick-start the season on his home turf at Silverstone on 17 June. With any luck he will mirror his performance from last year, where he claimed a top-ten finish in poor conditions.
